“Estancia” is the synonym for tradition and good taste in the middle of the Argentine and Uruguayan plains. The term became popular in the early 19th century to describe a property based on agriculture with mainly stock-farming. Estancias were also reputed for their magnificent mansions. Beyond its agronomic and economic existence, Estancia’s cultural and popular significance takes us back to the time of Gaucho–romanticism, of powerful landlords and browsing cattle in the endless Pampas.

The awareness of Estancias as cultural heritage is increasing. We quote three beautiful estates close to “Villa Darwin”, a village named after Charles Darwin who is said to have developed an essential part of his evolution theory in this very region. Some of our guests need a couple of days to get used to living without any obligations, just sharing quality time with friends and relatives and meanwhile growing addicted to the most spectacular sunsets.

Our local kitchen comprises typical Uruguayan and Argentine plates that can vary according to our guests’ wishes. The genuine products (meat, eggs, milk, vegetables) are generally homegrown or – when possible – delivered from nearby organic farms.

  • Estancia La Cololó: A broad, modern Estancia on 250 hectares of cattle, farming and natural woodland. From the top of a hill it overlooks the whole region and disposes of a breathtaking scenery. With its swimming pool, outside barbecue grill, very good horse riding infrastructure and its own 6 hole golf par three golf course, it is ideal for families, groups of friends or seminars.
  • Estancia Paso del Correntino: A historic estancia right on the banks of the Rio Negro was built in the 19th century and has been turned into a temple of good taste and rare trees in its beautiful botanical garden. This estancia is ideal for group-retreats and people who love architectural and natural heritage in an idyllic environment. The best place to charge your batteries and just feel alive. The riding and golf infrastructure of our other Estancias (La Cololó and La Lista del Hum) is at disposal of our guests.
  • Estancia La Lista del Hum: The ancient house belonged to a much bigger estancia complex and maintained the original rural flavor. The farm stretches now on 700 hectares of mainly agricultural land. This place suits perfectly for groups and big families with kids who may play cowboy and Indians, horseback riding in the park around the house while the adults may enjoy their time chatting and sipping a drink in the patio.
